Announcements:

2011-03-14: Annual members/board meeting at 8PM Island House Community Room [see agenda].  Will discuss annual reports, status of building conversion, maintenance issues/status, and election of officers by board of directors.

2011-01-31 IHTA Annual Elections Results: At the close of the nomination period, the Secretary received six (6) sets of nominations and acceptances for candidates for director: Graham Cannon, Chris Enock, Frank Farance, Renato Folla, Geoffrey Kerr, Richard Leopold. Our by-laws require a minimum of 5 directors and a maximum of 9. Assuming that each of the candidates would vote at least for themselves, the outcome of the elections was already known: these 6 candidates will become the new directors (there is no option to vote against a candidate, only the option to vote for a candidate). Because the outcome was already determined, the following process was used: the Secretary of the corporation cast one vote for the 6 candidates (i.e., there was still a vote).

2009-09-26: Recommendation Ballot: 76.2% in favor, 23.8% opposed [see PDF document].  The IHTA Recommendation Ballot has concluded. The ballot question:

Do you recommend that the IHTA Board sign the proposal entitled "A Plan For Preservation Of Affordable Housing", as presented to the tenants, that describes the main elements of the affordable conversion proposal and will signal the Owner, DHCR and RIOC to move ahead with a ground lease extension and preparation of the offering plan? (As a tenant, I understand that I am making no decision on whether to purchase or to continue to rent my apartment and that all my rights are expressly reserved.)

had a significant turnout from Island House tenants and it received overwhelming support. Of the 400 apartments in Island House, 390 are eligible to vote (7 vacant, 2 corporate tenant, 1 employee). Of the 390 apartments, 223 voted (57.2%). The tally was:
        Yes 170 (76.2%)
        No 53 (23.8%)
        Abstain 0 (0.0%)
